Yes. When you and a matched flatmate co-apply to a listing, the rent is split on the agreement itself — each of you pays your share directly into escrow. No one chasing the other on payday. Utility splits and rotating chores can be tracked in-app too, so the financial side of co-living stops being a source of friction.

When you and your flatmate commit to a listing, both of your rent shares go into a Mushrooms-controlled escrow account — not directly to the landlord. The funds release to the host only after both of you physically move in and confirm the apartment matches the listing (photos, condition, amenities). If it doesn't match, you get a full refund. No more paying a year's rent to a stranger and hoping for the best.

Yes. You can set gender preferences in your profile, and Mushrooms will only surface flatmates who match those preferences. Combined with NIN verification, live selfie, and tenancy history, this is the strongest baseline for safe female-only or female-preferring flatmate matching in Nigeria. Each flatmate's share is on their own escrow-backed schedule, so one person defaulting doesn't immediately blow up the lease. Mushrooms gives a 7-day grace window, then opens a dispute. The defaulting flatmate's tenancy history is updated, and they lose access to the platform until the issue is resolved. You can also request a replacement flatmate through us — we'll source a compatible match without breaking your lease.
